The County of Maui's Long Range Planning Division will be undertaking an extensive community participation process that involves not only the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) meetings, but a number of community meetings and events as well.
On June 24, 2006, a public awareness kick-off event, was held at I`ao School.
The goal of this event was to not only inform the public of the General Plan Update and what it entails, but to also provide the community with information and opportunities for direct involvement in the planning and decision-making process.
The Department will be hosting two more WalkStory's to gather more public input.
WalkStory II will be held on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at Kalama Intermediate School Cafeteria.
WalkStory III will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center.
The Department will also make presentations to local community groups and organizations, and has already started this practice by making presentations to the Realtor's Association and various Rotary Clubs around the island.
Furthermore, this webpage is available for internet users to access information about the project.
Information such as dates of GPAC, Planning Commission and Council meetings will be posted as they become available, as well as how to provide input directly to the Department.
