Renewal of Commercial Drivers License
It is the responsibility of the license holder to renew their Hawaii Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) prior to the expiration date. YYou have the option to renew your Commercial Driver's License at our
Kahului Service Center Office,
Molokai Satellite Office or our
Lanai Satellite Office within six (6) months prior to the expiration date. All applicants must present original or certified copies from our
Hawaii Acceptable Documents Checklist to prove the following and be able to renew their license:
- Provide proof of Name
- Provide proof of Date of Birth
- Provide Social Security Number
- Provide proof of Legal Presence
- Complete a Commercial Driver’s License application for renewal that is available at any Motor Vehicle & Licensing office
- Submit a Medical Examiner’s Certificate
- Pass the required vision test
- Pass the required knowledge tests for hazmat endorsement or upgrades only
Please Note: If you have a hazardous material endorsement and you wish to retain it, you will be required to pass the hazardous material knowledge exam. You must apply and receive clearance for a security threat assessment with the Transportation Security Administration. The USA PATRIOT ACT requires background checks for all commercial drivers who apply for, renew or transfer a hazmat endorsement. You are required to show proof of citizenship

- Payment of the appropriate fees. Refer to the 2011 Maui County Fee Chart.
