Refuse Collection Information
Program Description
This program collects and disposes of residential refuse in 6 major districts; Central Maui (including Wailuku, Kahului and South Maui), Makawao (including Kula, Pukalani, Paia and Haiku), Lahaina (West Maui). Hana, Lana'i and Moloka'i collections are performed by Highways personnel.
Residential Service
County Refuse crews, our 'Opala Pickers,' provide curbside collection service to over 27,000 accounts, on three islands, Monday through Friday, all year including holidays. Residential users pay a fee for service of $216
($108 on Lanai) annually (actual cost of residential service is approximately $480 per year). The County of Maui subsidizes residential collection by about $264 per year. Here is the
Application for Residential Refuse Collection.
IMPORTANT: Residential fees are collected in advance for refuse services and are billed twice a year. Fees are subject to being increased by Budget Ordinance effective July 1, as part of the budget process. Adjustments will be made to existing and new accounts accordingly.
For more information on new accounts, account renewals, and delinquent accounts, view
