Mission Statement: The Community Development Block Grant program is a federal program that began operation in 1975. It is formally known as "Title I" of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended. CDBG is run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It is the principal federal program providing grants to States and Local Governments to devise innovative and constructive approaches to improve the physical, economic and social conditions in their communities which will benefit persons of low and moderate income.
The primary objective for CDBG is to improve communities by providing:
"decent housing"
"a suitable living environment" and
"expanding economic opportunities..." all
"principally for persons of low and moderate income."
