Notice of End of Declaration of  Stage 1 Water Shortage

Pursuant to Chapter 14.06A, Maui County Code, the Department of Water Supply of the County of Maui hereby provides notice of the end of the Stage 1 water shortage for water consumers in the Upcountry Maui service area. The Upcountry Maui service area includes Makawao, Upper and Lower Kula, Haiku, Pukalani, Kokomo, Kaupakalua, Ulumalu,
Keokea, Ulupalakua, and Kanaio.

Due to recent rainfall, our reservoirs are near capacity and continue to fill. Forecasts call for near normal conditions for rain events into the winter months. Long-range forecasts for surface sea temperatures (SST’s) show trends for normal to slightly below normal surface sea temperatures, which suggests La Niña conditions tending towards higher rainfalls.

The Director of Water Supply, wishes to thank our Upcountry Maui customers for their support in reducing their water use during these dry times.

The Department will continue to watch supply and demand and the weather forecast to determine if a Stage 1 water shortage needs to be reimplemented. Please contact the Department Secretary at (808) 270-7834 if further information is needed.
