Equal Employment Opportunity Services
Overview

It is the policy of the County of Maui that there shall be no discrimination in employment pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended, and the Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapters 368 and 378.
Except for bona fide occupational or other legal requirements, no individual employed by the County, or applying for employment with the County, shall be subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, disability, marital status, pregnancy, arrest and court record, assignment of child support, national guard participation or any other basis covered by state or federal laws governing non-discrimination.
Services
The Equal Employment Opportunity Office plans, coordinates, and implements the County's equal employment opportunity/affirmative action program, including employment related issues covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); evaluates program effectiveness and ensures County's compliance with applicable federal, state and county laws and requirements; and serves as the County's technical resource specialist on matters pertaining to the program. This office also handles complaints of discrimination.
Affirmative Action Advisory Council
The Affirmative Action Advisory Council is established by Ordinance No. 1858 and is required to meet annually to monitor the effectiveness of the equal employment opportunity/affirmative action plan as well as to hear public testimony relative to issues of discrimination. The AAAC was established to assist the Mayor in all phases of the County EEO Program. Any meeting(s) of the Council is posted 6 days in advance on the County internet site.

An employee or applicant for employment may file a complaint if they feel they have been discriminated against on any prohibited basis.

A complaint must be filed on Form EEO09DC which is the County of Maui Discrimination Complaint Form. This form is available by contacting the equal employment opportunity officer. If you need assistance completing the from due to a disability, assistance is available by informing the EEO Office.
