An update to the South Maui Community Park Master Plan is now being prepared for the undeveloped portion of South Maui Community Park between the new South Maui Gymnasium (now under construction) and East Welakahao Rd. A master plan was originally prepared many years ago but because of changes to what was built, the Department of Parks and Recreation believed that the plan should be updated.
The plan is being prepared by a consultant team headed by R.M. Towill, a planning and engineering office in Honolulu. A project advisory committee (PAC), comprising seven people who bring a variety of perspectives and expertise, has been working with the planning team since the project’s inception in fall of 2018.
In addition to the PAC, the project has included a three-hour open house for the public to review and comment on three options for the master plan. Another open house will be scheduled during the spring to display a draft of the final master plan. Once the final master plan is completed, the consultant team will begin the preparation of detailed design and construction drawings.
