Citizen Corps / Programs

Overview
The main goal of Citizen Corps is to prepare the nation by uniting communities, providing a unique opportunity for people to join with friends, neighbors, and local leaders to ensure the safety of their area.

Developed in response to the national call for Americans to work together to strengthen homeland security, Maui County has established a nationally-registered Citizen Corps Council to assist in the coordination of local volunteer emergency response opportunities and information in our County.

During President Bush's State of the Union address in January 2002, he requested that all citizens devote time in volunteer service to their own community by "getting organized to offer citizens opportunities to help make their communities safer, stronger, and better prepared for preventing and handling threats of terrorism, crime, and other emergencies and disasters."
