Minor Registration

Overview


Minors under eighteen years of age must be registered with the Department of Liquor Control before being employed in any section of a liquor licensed business where liquor is sold, stored, served, consumed or readily accessible or available. Minors under sixteen years of age may be registered for theatrical employment only. Minors 18 – 20 years of age do not need to register with the Department.  Which can be found on the department's website at www.mauicounty.gov/liquor and by selecting the Liquor Control Forms tab.

1. Department of Liquor Control Registration of Minor form completed and signed by a corporate officer or authorized agent of the employer. The form should not be completed by the minor or the minor's parent or legal guardian.

2. Government-issued photo identification (unexpired and undamaged) of minor. If a minor does not have proper identification, a temporary thirty-day registration permit may be issued one time only if the minor presents a birth certificate (photocopy ok) or school identification card. The minor shall submit proper identification prior to the expiration of the thirty-day temporary permit.

 3. Government-issued photo identification (unexpired and undamaged) of parent or legal guardian of minor.

 4. Legal guardianship documents, if applicable.

 5. $10 fee.


Procedure 


1. Registration must be done in person with both the minor and parent or legal guardian present.

 2. Registrations are done at the Wailuku office between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding County of Maui holidays. Appointments may be scheduled at the Wailuku office (243-7753). Walk-ins without an appointment may be registered depending upon staff availability.

 3. Bring the required items to your appointment.

  • $10.00 registration fee.
4. During the appointment, the minor and parent or legal guardian will meet with a liquor control officer to review the restrictions and responsibilities of minors working in a liquor licensed business.

 5. Department will issue the minor a registration card which must be kept in the minor's possession or be readily available for inspection at the minor's place of employment while the minor is on duty.
