Overview It is advisable that a victim of spousal / partner abuse obtain a restraining order. A restraining order will place restrictions on the abusing person's behavior, e.g. to have no contact with the victim. The restraining order assists the police to better respond to any violations than if no restraining order existed.
There are two different types of restraining orders. The Family Court Order is for families and people that have lived in the same household. The District Court Restraining Order is for neighbors or strangers.
