Overview
Only minor structures and/or minor activities are allowed within the Shoreline Setback Area. While all proposed structures and/or activities are subject to approval, some are explicitly defined as permissible within the
Shoreline Setback Rules for Maui County.
A
Shoreline Setback Approval is required prior to initiating construction, building, or ground-altering activities within the Shoreline Setback Area. Furthermore, minor structures are defined as those that cost less than $125,000, do not impede the natural movement of the shoreline, and do not alter the existing grade of the shoreline area. Any other structure or activity may require a Shoreline Setback Variance.
