Qualified residents reminded to submit Circuit Breaker and Home Exemption applications

The Department of Finance’s Real Property Assessment Division is reminding all homeowners eligible for the Circuit Breaker Tax Credit to submit an application before the end of the year, Dec. 31, 2020.   The Real Property Assessment Division home exemption application deadline is also Dec. 31, 2020.

The Circuit Breaker Tax Credit is available to those taxpayers who own and occupy their property as their principal residence with a homeowner exemption and whose real property taxes exceed 2 percent of their gross income. To apply for this credit, homeowners must file an application.

The Real Property Assessment Division home exemption is available to those taxpayers who own and occupy their property as their principal residence and have filed a State of Hawaii resident income tax return with a reported address in the County prior to Jan. 1, 2021. Online filing is available for the home exemption at Mauipropertytax.com under the forms link in the Exemption Forms list.

Applications for the Circuit Breaker Credit and all exemptions can be found on the Real Property Tax website Mauipropertytax.com by clicking the forms link.

Circuit Breaker applications may also be picked up from the Treasury Real Property Tax/Fee Collections and Tax Relief Program office in the Maui Mall, at 70 East Kaahumanu Ave., Suite A-18, next to the Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and County holidays.
