Update: Department of Water Supply restores water service in Kihei

The Department of Water Supply reported Thursday afternoon that water service has been restored to central Kihei customers after a mainline break led to a service outage in the early morning hours of May 6.

Affected waterlines were being flushed Thursday afternoon, so customers may experience low water pressure. When water service returns, customers are advised to anticipate brown water for 24 to 48 hours. They should flush their waterlines by running a faucet for a short time before using water.

The water main break occurred in a 30-inch transmission pipeline in the early morning hours of May 6 on Auhana Road. The water service outage affected over 150 homes and businesses and 200 fire hydrants. 

A water tanker remained at Kanakanui Road directly across from Kamali`i Elementary School for customers to fill water containers.
