Kuau Bay Beach Park closed today, Baldwin Beach Park and Ho`okipa Beach Park remain closed

The County of Maui closed Kuau Bay Beach Park on Wednesday morning when its parking lot began flooding as an extra-large swell hit north and west shores. The closure of Baldwin Beach Park and Ho'okipa Beach Park was announced late yesterday and remain closed, with signs posted warning of high surf. The National Weather Service forecasted surf of 40 to 50 feet along north-facing shores, with possible impacts that include ocean water surging and sweeping across beaches and periodically overtopping vulnerable coastal roadways. The County of Maui Parks and Recreation Department and Emergency Management Agency are closely monitoring and assessing impacts from the high surf. The public is advised to stay away from the shoreline along affected coasts and to take precautionary measures. Updates will be available at www.mauicounty.gov/mema and on the County of Maui Facebook page. For latest forecast information by the National Weather Service go to www.weather.gov/hfo.
