Mayor Richard Bissen, Jr. Honors Engineers With Proclamation


Mayor Richard Bissen, Jr. has proclaimed February 19 to 25, 2023 as Engineers Week in Maui County. The week is annually recognized throughout the country to spotlight the work engineers do and the contributions the profession makes toward finding opportunities and developing innovative solutions to help make a difference in local and global challenges.

"With their skillful problem-solving abilities, engineers are often creators of our future and we join the rest of the nation in celebrating their contributions with the Proclamation. I’m especially proud of our engineers who are employed by the County of Maui. Their work in our different departments serve our community and make an important difference in our daily lives," Mayor Bissen said.

More than 40 engineers are employed by the County of Maui.

We will feature county engineers Dan Shupack, Paul Barany, Tammy Yeh, Sage Kiyonaga and John Datiles in stories and videos that will be posted on the county's website,, and on County of Maui social media including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

One profile will be posted each day, starting Monday, February 20.

Tune in this week to see:

·  Dan Shupack, a civil engineer with the Department of Management, talk about his underground project.

·  Paul Barany. Highways Superintendent with the Department of Public Works, discuss how engineers helped get traffic flowing in East Maui last year.

·  Tammy Yeh, a civil engineer with the Department of Water Supply, describe how building with Legos influenced her career.

·  Sage Kiyonaga, a civil engineer in the Department of Environmental Management, tell what happened when he took apart a battery-operated television set as a child.

·  John Datiles, a civil engineer with the Department of Public Works, reveal how gummy worms helped make him an engineer.
