South Maui residents reminded of Kihei road closure beginning Feb. 11

South Maui residents and motorists are reminded that a portion of Kulanihakoi Street at its intersection with Piilani Highway in Kihei will be closed 24 hours, seven days a week, beginning 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, as part of open trench installation of underground utilities for the new Kihei high school.

The project requires a complete closure of Kulanihakoi from Piilani Highway to Mahealani Street. Motorists will be detoured to alternate routes. Traffic delays may occur during construction.

Work is expected to be completed by April 30.

According to contractor Goodfellow Bros. LLC, message boards announcing pending roadwork went up on nearby roads in November and on Piilani Highway two weeks ago. Half-page newspaper ads have been taken out to announce the road closure, and fliers were distributed to neighboring residents on Friday, Feb. 8.
