The Maui American Job Center has updated a website with new resources to help Maui County residents file for state unemployment insurance or register for job searches after widespread layoffs caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
The Maui American Job Center website is at www.mauiamericanjobcenter.com.
“This updated website is resource for the tens of thousands of residents who’ve lost jobs or had work hours cut because of COVID-19,” Mayor Michael Victorino said. “Anyone having trouble accessing the state unemployment system can file a claim by clicking on a link on the website. A completed application can be emailed to state unemployment insurance staff for data input. Applicants will receive a confirmation email.”
Unemployment insurance is administered by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
The MAJC website can be accessed on a computer or cellphone. Its features include:
“This website is designed as a one-stop shop for people looking for help with job search tools, social service agency information for residents in need and information to help struggling businesses that have been affected by COVID-19 impacts,” said Kay Fukumoto, director of the Maui County Office of Economic Development. “We understand that slow Internet upload speeds have contributed to the online unemployment filing system’s inability to handle the much higher volume of claims.”
Job seekers are able to see job postings, build a resume and register for HireNet.
“Even though HireNet registrations have been waived for now, we recommend that job seekers register for HireNet now because we anticipate a wave of registrations at the end of this month,” Fukumoto said. “More help is also expected from the federal government under the CARES Act.”
The MAJC website has been coordinated by Maui County Workforce Development Program Partners, State of Hawaii Unemployment Insurance Division and the Maui County American Job Center.
