  2. Public Hearing regarding Lanai City Country Town Business District Design Guidelines and Standards

    February 21, 2018, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Lanai Senior Center

The Design Guidelines & Standards for the Lanai City Country Town Business district assist property owners when building or modifying structures in the district. They also establish standards that the Planning Department uses to review applications for Country Town Design Review. This public hearing is part of an effort to replace the existing Design Guidelines & Standards, which were adopted in 1997. The proposed replacement document was introduced by County Council resolution in 2011. County Council deferred adopting the replacement document pending the completion of the Lanai Community Plan update. Now that the Community Plan update is complete, the Planning Department is recirculating the proposed replacement document for review.

  1. Retailillusion – Why Price and Product is No Longer Enough Instructor: Julius Geis

    February 21, 2018, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM @ Maui County Business Resource Center

Julius Geis, CEO of On Any Given Monday, will explain why this idea helps retail businesses understand that there are more relevant indicators to “closing a sale” and generating commercial success than just the product and the lowest price. This workshop is specially targeted to small and mid-size premium sports, outdoor, and fashion retailers. Julius started his career as a brand and marketing manager for different sports brands. In 2010, Julius founded the agency label On Any Given Monday and became the global social media lead for legendary sports-lifestyle brand Bogner. He also created an innovative and successful campaign for Sony Music and consulted for the Munich 2018 Olympic Bid Committee. For Julius, branding is more than just creating a glossy surface. For him, identity-based branding is a powerful instrument that leads companies and their people toward sustainable business success. Since October 2016, Julius is living with his family on the island of Maui, Hawaii.

    February 21, 2018, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ West Maui Senior Center

Informational meeting on the permitting process and land entitlements, Wednesday, February 21, at the West Maui Senior Center. The agenda includes an open house from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m., presentations from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m., and Q&A session from 6:45 - 8:00 p.m. The West Maui meetings have previously focused on the update of the community plan, which is a long-range aspirational document that directs future growth. Community plans are distinct from the "land entitlement" process, which is the legal method of acquiring approvals to develop or use a property and frequently involves obtaining various permits. The purpose of this meeting is to explain the County's permitting and land use approval process, and show the distinction from the community planning process and plans.
